Accessibility at PetDeets

We believe everyone should be able to manage their pet's care with ease, regardless of ability.

Our commitment

PetDeets is committed to making pet care management accessible to all users. We follow WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines and continuously work to improve the accessibility of our app.

VoiceOver (screen reader)

• All primary flows fully support VoiceOver: sign-up, pet creation, daily task management, and pet health overview.
• Task rows use a two-stop pattern: an info section that reads the pet name, task details, and schedule as a combined announcement, followed by a separate action button for completing the task.
• Time-of-day headers announce progress, for example "Morning, 3 of 8 tasks completed".
• Expandable groups announce their expanded or collapsed state.
• Decorative elements — icons, chevrons, background images — are hidden from screen readers to reduce noise.
• State changes are announced. Completing a task updates the VoiceOver label from "Complete" to "Completed".

Dynamic Type

• PetDeets respects your device's text size preferences.
• All text scales with your system font size settings.
• Layouts adapt to accommodate larger text without clipping.

Visual design

• High contrast between text and backgrounds throughout the app.
• Consistent color coding with non-color-dependent indicators. Icons and text labels accompany all color-coded elements.
• Clear visual hierarchy with distinct headings, sections, and interactive elements.

Haptic feedback

• Tactile confirmation when completing tasks and key actions.
• Supports users who may not be focused on the screen.

Areas we are improving

We are continuously working on accessibility. Current focus areas include:

• Full Keyboard and Switch Control support for iPad.
• Additional VoiceOver refinements for health observation and livestock management flows.
• Localization of VoiceOver labels for non-English users.

Standards
